I’ve been going to an awesome Turkish kebab restaurant near work (in Bern, Switzerland) for a falafel roll or mezze plate at least once a week for almost a year.
It’s cheap, it’s pretty healthy and the people are nice. Sometimes I eat in, sometimes it’s to go.
Last week, I thought I’d try something different.
I took my Bee’s Wrap cloth with me (no affiliate links here, I’m just providing info) and asked if I could take my roll away in that instead of the normal grease-proof paper.
Voila! Ask and you shall receive!

The girl who made my lunch was slightly bemused, but when I explained why, she did it!
The feeling of the material is quite strange, but it wraps tight. It smells strongly of beeswax, but the smell doesn’t transfer to the food. Here are some answers to questions you might have about this green product. I bought it (it’s called a bread wrap, there are other varieties and 3-packs) at a lovely store called Changemaker in Bern. There are a few of these shops in Switzerland.
Do you think it’s a good alternative, too? I wrote to them to ask how to dispose of it after it’s finished its lifecycle (about one year, washing in water) and they said it’s compostable.
I’m super stoked my favourite lunch is now waste free – all the more reason to keep going back too! It’s good to support those who support you.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
